10 Amazing Beauty Hacks with Honey

When it comes to using natural ingredients to enhance your beauty, HONEY is right at the top of our list! After all, most of us always have a jar of honey snuck away in the kitchen. Raw honey is easily available and has powerful antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Here’s some of our favourite uses of this miracle ingredient.

1. Topical treatment for acne
Get rid of that pesky pimple using a simple natural ingredient. Simply dab some honey on your pimple and leave it on for as long as you can, before washing off with warm water. Honey is antibacterial in nature and thus works to prevent and treat acne.

2. Helps in healing scars and burns
Honey has regenerative properties that promote the skin’s natural healing process. It can help in lightening scars over a period of time. Its anti-inflammatory properties also make it very effective in treating sunburn and other minor burns. To reduce the appearance of scars, apply a mixture of honey and coconut oil to the affected area daily and wash off after a while. Treat sunburn by applying a mixture of raw honey and aloe vera gel to the sunburnt part of your skin daily.

3. Natural lip softener
Who needs fancy lip balms when you can get soft, smooth lips with the power of raw honey! Try this natural remedy to exfoliate and soften your lips – mix together 1 tbsp honey, 1 tsp olive/almond/coconut oil, 1 tsp brown sugar and 1 drop of peppermint oil (optional). Gently rub this mixture on your lips and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water and feel the difference immediately.

4. Nourishment for dry, damaged hair
Honey helps retain moisture effectively and is thus a natural hair conditioner. Use it to treat damaged or dry hair by mixing it with coconut oil or flaxseed oil and applying it to the lengths of your hair. Let it seep into your skin by wearing a disposable shower cap and leaving it on for 30-40 minutes. Do this at least twice a week for a marked difference.

5. Reduces unwanted hair
Honey is a great exfoliator and when mixed with another strong exfoliator like oatmeal, helps to reduce unwanted hair from your face and body in a safe manner. Make a scrub by mixing together 2 tbsp oatmeal and 1-2 tbsp honey.Massage this into your skin and let it sit for a while before you wash it off with cold water. However, this is a long-term treatment, so be patient and over time, you will notice a difference in your hair growth.

6. Soothes a sore throat
Yes, our Moms and Grand-moms have been saying it all along and it’s true. Honey possesses antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe a sore throat. You can simply mix honey with hot water and have it several times a day. You can also try a lemon, honey and ginger drink with warm water to help fight off symptoms.

7. Honey as a face scrub
Not only does honey help exfoliate your skin, but it also helps combat acne and works to moisturize your skin at the same, leaving it soft, clear and fresh. Try this DIY face scrub twice a week for smoother, softer skin. Mix together 2 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp brown sugar, ½ tsp lemon juice and, in case of acne, ½ tsp cinnamon. Massage it gently into your skin and leave it on for 15-20 minutes before washing off. Always do a patch test on a small area of your skin first if you have sensitive skin.

8. Moisturizes skin gently
Honey is occlusive in nature, which means it helps in trapping and locking in your skin’s natural moisture. This simple, natural ingredient can leave your skin feeling velvety soft and smooth. You can apply raw honey to your skin directly or you can make a moisturizing face mask with 2 tbsp honey and 2 tbsp plain yoghurt. 2 tbsp honey and ½ ripe avocado also makes a great nourishing face mask.

9. Dark circle treatment
Honey is a natural skin brightener. Simply apply it directly to your under-eye circles and let it sit for a while before washing it off. You can also add a tiny pinch of turmeric powder to this but make sure you don’t add to much, else you can land up with a yellowish tinge.

10. Tightens pores for younger-looking skin
Honey is also used in a lot of anti-aging products as it helps your skin retain moisture and elasticity, thus slowing down the aging process, leaving you with younger-looking, radiant skin.Mix 1 tbsp honey with 2 tbsp brown sugarand a drop of lemon juice, and massage it into your skin. Let it tighten and dry up before washing off.
