The smart way to shower

With today’s hectic lifestyle, bath-time is pretty much the only time you get to focus on your skin and make sure it is well cared for. Taking a shower can seem quite simple and straightforward. However, there are a few rules that you should follow while taking a shower to make sure that you pamper your skin in the right way. Here are our top 10 pointers on how to maximize your bath-time for great skin.

1. Take shorter showers: Are you notorious for taking long, luxurious showers while the rest of your family waits impatiently for their turn? Well, it’s time to break the habit. Limit your shower to 10 minutes or so on a daily basis, so that you don’t end up over-drying your skin.

2. Use a gentle soap with lukewarm water: Your skin is extremely sensitive and the use of harsh soaps and washes can strip it of its natural oils and leave it dry and damaged. Use soaps that are enriched with natural ingredients and are gentle on your skin. Doy Care’s range of soaps are enriched with the purest ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Honey, Milk Cream and Sandalwood oil that gently nourish even the most sensitive skin. Always bathe in lukewarm water, as hot water can strip away your skin’s natural oils, leaving it damaged.

3. Distribute shampoo properly: First, dilute your shampoo by taking a little in your palm and adding water. Then work the shampoo into your hair by massaging it into your scalp, roots and the nape of the neck. Focus on the oily areas of your scalp instead of applying it along the lengths of your hair.

4. Love your loofah: Exfoliate your skin gently with a loofah to scrub off dry skin. Make sure that you do not share your loofah with another person, even if it is a family member. See that your loofah dries off completely after you use it so that it stays clean and germ-free.

5. Always rinse well: Rinse your skin and scalp properly so that there is no trace of product left on your skin. If you do not rinse well, the left-over product can make your skin/scalp oily and even lead to breakouts.

6. Pat it dry: After a shower, gently pat your skin dry with your towel instead of rubbing it, which may dry out and irritate your skin.

7. Moisturize in a minute: Spend a minute after your shower to moisturize your skin. Don’t skip this routine. It helps lock the moisture into your skin, keeping it velvety soft and smooth.

8. Wait to shave: Make sure shave towards the end of your shower. This is because your pores will open up and your hair can be removed easily, without causing in-growth.

9. The two-towel rule: Don’t use the same towel on both your hair and your face/body. This can lead to major breakouts.

10. Wash your face at the end: Leave face-washing for the end of your shower. Ideally, you should wash your face with lukewarm or cold water.
